Pertronix Coil Recall
Pertronix Performance Products has issued a voluntary recall on their Flamethrower Epoxy Coils distributed between May, 2008 and October 30, 2009.
The manufacturing process was changed to an "enclosed can" style of epoxy coil. This new style of epoxy coil is experiencing higher failure rates under certain conditions.
Who does this apply to? Any customer that purchased the following items from Expedition Imports between May 2008, and October 30th 2009
- 40611 - Flamethrower 3ohm Epoxy Coil
- MGIGKIT - Unimog Civilian Ignition Conversion
- MGIGKIT2 - Unimog Civilian Ignition Conversion Less Ignitor
- PZIGKIT - Pinzgauer Civilian Ignition Conversion
- PZIGKIT2 - Pinzgauer Civilian Ignition Conversion Less Ignitor
UPDATE: Please Use the COILRECALL product and checkout following the directions.
What should you do? Pertronix Performance Products has shifted its manufacture of the Epoxy coils back to the original "open bottom" style of Epoxy Coil, and will be exchanging out the coils for a new replacement free of charge. The replacement coils will be distributed via Expedition Imports and are scheduled to be shipped the week of December 1st.
- 1 - Contact Expedition Imports For a Warranty Claim. The easiest way to do this is to "purchase" the COILRECALL and put it through the webstore. This does not cost you anything.
- 2 - EI will send out a replacement coil and a pre-paid box for return of your old coil.
We are extremely sorry for any inconvenience that this may have caused and are working hard to correct this unfortunate situation.

This is the original flamethrower style of Epoxy coil that is OK and not being recalled. You should be able to see the actual Grey/Clear Epoxy on the bottom of the coil. This coil will also NOT have a raised edge at the top.

The "enclosed can" style of coil is pictured on each side of the Original Epoxy Coil. You will notice the "enclosed can" also has a raised edge at the top where the two pieces of the "can" come together.

This is the Recalled "Can Style" Epoxy coil.
